They wrote their Skittles colors in fraction form, converted it to percents and decimals, and also represented it on a hundreds chart. I have a huge stash of Skittles in my room simply because I need them at the ready when I want to use all the different activities!įirst, they took their skittles to work on some converting using hundreds charts. There are several activities in the packet for different upper grades concepts, and to be quite honest, I'm shocked I've never blogged about them before. You can find the templates and student instructions for these activities in my Skittles Math Printables. Formulas and examples are included. Finally, the absolute favorite activity involved Skittles! Even though they were enjoying candy while working, they worked so diligently to complete the assignment, and I was so proud of their hard work. The problem formats match the input fields in the calculator above. See if you can match your problem to one of the samples below. There are nine variations on the three basic problems involving percentages. ![]() Multiply by 100 and add a percentage sign.Remember: How to convert a decimal to a percentage For example, if a man gets a 4 increment in his allowance of 141.20. Remove the percentage sign and divide by 100 It is very easy to calculate percentage without a calculator. This calculator shows the steps and work to convert a fraction to a percentage number. Remember: How to convert a percentage to a decimal Convert proper and improper fractions to percentages. Double check your answer with the original question: 25 is 20% of what number? 25/0.20 =.Substitute 0.20 for 20% in the equation: 25/0.20 = X.Convert the percentage to a decimal by dividing by 100.Y is 25, P% is 20, so the equation is 25/20% = X.Convert the problem to an equation using the percentage formula: Y/P% = X.Double check your answer with the original question: What percent of 60 is 12? 12/60 = 0.20, and multiplying by 100 to get percentage, 0.20 * 100 =ģ.So, the fraction 4 8 is equivalent to 50. Converting 0.20 to a percent: 0.20 * 100 = 20% It can be converted to percent by multiplying the decimal by 100.You need to multiply the result by 100 to get the percentage. Important! The result will always be in decimal form, not percentage form.X is 60, Y is 12, so the equation is 12/60 = P%.Convert the problem to an equation using the percentage formula: Y/X = P%.Double check your answer with the original question: What is 10% of 150? Multiply 0.10 * 150 =Ģ.Convert 10% to a decimal by removing the percent sign and dividing by 100: 10/100 = 0.10.P is 10%, X is 150, so the equation is 10% * 150 = Y.Convert the problem to an equation using the percentage formula: P% * X = Y.Read on to learn more about how to figure percentages. X and Y are numbers and P is the percentage: Let's explore the three basic percentage problems. ![]() The formulas below are all mathematical variations of this formula. To do that, we simply divide the numerator by the denominator: 7/8 0. Reduce fractions to lowest terms, simplify, compare and order fractions. We can also work this out in a simpler way by first converting the fraction 7/8 to a decimal. Learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. You can think of the most basic as X/Y = P x 100. 7 x 12.5 8 x 12.5 87.5 100 Now we can see that our fraction is 87.5/100, which means that 7/8 as a percentage is 87.5. There are many formulas for percentage problems. ![]() What percentage of the students are right handed Apply. Add or subtract a percentage from a number or solve the equations.
